From field to packet in four weeks
No glycerine, no bleach, no spray paint except on the bunny tails. Just timing, a dark barn and Ojai's dry air.

Week 1
Cut at half-open
Strawflowers keep opening as they dry, so we cut them a day before they look ready.

Week 2
Bunch in tens
Rubber bands, not string: stems shrink as they dry and string lets them slip.

Week 3
Hang upside down
Three weeks in the old walnut barn, dark and dry, with the doors open at night.

Pack and print
Into a packet we print ourselves on a riso duplicator, two inks at a time.

How long each one keeps
Typical years indoors, out of direct sun. A sunny windowsill halves them; a dim hallway can double them.
Saturday workshops in the barn
Three hours, ten people, a long table and every dried stem we grow. Tea, coffee and a wreath or bouquet to take home are included.
